Right now, an estimated 650,000 stray dogs wander Puerto Rico, struggling to survive. We proudly support The Sato Project because of the incredible difference they’re making for our brother and sister Satos that are still in need. Their work goes far beyond rescue—they’re building long-term, sustainable change. Through large-scale spay, neuter, and vaccination programs, they’re actively reducing the number of dogs suffering on the streets and in shelters. Their ongoing “Operation Sato” clinics provide essential veterinary care to underserved communities, preventing future generations of stray animals and improving the lives of pets already in homes.

They also coordinate frequent “freedom flights,” transporting rescued dogs to loving homes in the mainland United States. Each of these flights represents dozens of dogs who’ve been rehabilitated, medically cleared, and given a second chance. During natural disasters and emergencies, The Sato Project steps in with immediate relief—providing food, medical supplies, and even reuniting displaced pets with their families. They’ve delivered over 150,000 pounds of emergency aid and reunited hundreds of pets separated by hurricanes and earthquakes.

What sets them apart is their holistic approach: they address both the immediate needs of the animals and the root causes of the stray crisis. Their outreach and education efforts help communities understand the importance of responsible pet ownership, spaying and neutering, and vaccination. It’s clear their mission is driven by results, compassion, and an unwavering belief that every dog deserves love and care.

For us at Sailing Satos, this kind of impact is deeply personal. We’ve seen firsthand how transformative love and safety can be for stray dogs. That’s why we’re proud to share their mission and encourage others to support their work. If you’re looking to make a difference, The Sato Project is a nonprofit truly worth standing behind.
